We all know about the big four fashion weeks, the powerhouses. We see them plastered across glossy magazines and scrutinised online. But it’s not just the giants of the catwalk kingdom that are causing a stir, these five lesser-known cities are changing the game with their innovative fashion week line-ups.

Since its creation in 2007, the German fashion week has established itself as a champion of emerging talent by consistently showcasing young, up-and-coming designers. The ever-evolving capital is synonymous with cool, so it’s no surprise their fashion week is just that.

Chic, effortless Scandi style comes to life during Copenhagen Fashion Week, where brands such as Ganni and Stine Goya command global recognition. This year’s edition already has us bookmarking printed tights and long baggy shorts as key trends for 2020.

Formally known as Cibeles Fashion Week, Madrid’s show is a hotbed for niche Spanish brands, with the country’s excellent craftsmanship clearly visible on the catwalk. Designers at the show deftly combine traditional styles with new and exciting trends every year, presenting everything from sustainable collections to watercolour-inspired designs.

And if you still haven’t got your fill of Iberian flair, there’s 080 Barcelona Fashion, showcasing the best of Catalan style.

India’s biggest fashion event is celebrating its twentieth anniversary this year, and with that comes the realisation of its dream to "redefine the future of fashion and integrate India into the global fashion world”. With Bollywood stars scattered across the runway and a spotlight on next-generation designers, this is not one to ignore.

Modest fashion week

As perceptions around modest fashion change, the aesthetic is fast becoming a priority for designers. This means this travelling fashion show – which has visited London, Jakarta, Dubai and Istanbul so far – is certainly one to add to your calendar. The designs aren’t just modest, they’re eye-wateringly beautiful.
