Eugenia Silva shares her fashion week memories

The veteran catwalk star tells us what it’s really like to attend fashion week.

With both a successful catwalk career and a diary filled with front row invitations to her name, there’s no one better placed to dish the fashion week gossip than Eugenia Silva (@eusilva). “It’s a beautiful experience from both sides, whether you’re modelling or watching as a guest,” says the model and star of The Bicester Village Shopping Collection’s autumn shoot.

“When I arrived in Milan for the first time I was 19 or so, and I didn’t know much about fashion. My most memorable moment from those days – and I had a few – was Galliano for Dior, that was pretty amazing. It was unbelievable,” adds Eugenia. “I think Prada and Gucci shows are quite amazing right now.”

“Now, when I sit front row, I can just enjoy the beauty because there’s no stress and no rushing. You get to see the work from the other side. I think I’d rather sit front row than model and do the catwalk. It’s much more relaxing because you don’t have the pressure of getting around the city with a driver – trying not to be late for the shows.”

The Spanish model got her start in the industry when she won Elite’s Look of the Year competition aged 16, but she explains, “my father didn’t want me to work as a model, so I also studied law.”

The mother of two still models now, but recently her time has been taken up with her new brand Cabinett. “I created and started pulling together cool brands. Now we sell online and I recently had my first ever pop-up store [at Las Rozas Village] and I still work as a model. I have my hands full now!”

But she still finds time to catch the new season shows, even travelling to New York Fashion Week this September. So who does she admire from recent seasons? “I’m really excited about watching what new designers come up with,” she says.

“It was amazing to see what Jacquemus did [in the lavender fields in Valensole] in Provence to celebrate the brand’s tenth anniversary. He’s creating something that’s new and fresh and also very wearable.

“Another brand that I really love is Redemption. They just showed their couture collection in Paris and it’s unbelievable. I’m a big fan and I wear it a lot, so that’s exciting. These new designers come up with amazing ideas and they do a great job, so it’s always fun to see.”
