Casa Vicens
This house was created during Gaudí’s Orientalist phase (1883-1888), a period during which the architect, inspired by the art of the Near and Far East, created a series of works with a markedly exotic bent. Now fully restored, it is open as a museum and offers the opportunity to wander the rooms, all meticulously restored in accordance with Gaudí’s original designs.
Passeig del Born
Losing yourself in the Modernist streets of the cool Born neighbourhood is an unforgettable experience in and of itself, but the Passeig del Born, teeming with restaurants and shops, sets it quite apart. Visit after dark when it becomes one of the most cosmopolitan of nightlife haunts. Enjoy tapas and a beer at La Puntual, an authentic bodega offering endless choices, from magnificent cured ham to delicious rice with butifarra (Catalan sausage) and chanterelle mushrooms.
El Priorat
Wine has a long cultural tradition in Catalonia, a historic winegrowing region with its own local idiosyncrasies. Among the most famous vineyards are those in El Priorat, a county in the province of Tarragona. A small but very hilly area making the cultivation of grapes complex and costly, its wines are, nonetheless, quite exceptional. We’re fans of Mas Doix, a small winegrower dating back generations. Try Les Crestes, a wine with pure fruit and freshness; expressive and flavourful, young and genuine.
Mr Kao
Inspired by the golden age of private clubs in Shanghai, this is Barcelona’s first dim sum club. Located in the five-star Hotel Claris, it’s managed by the third generation of restaurateurs to promote this new revolutionary concept. Needless to say, the main protagonists are those diminutive Chinese delicacies – the dim sum – which are undeniably some of the best in the Catalan capital.
Spoonik
In an elegant, art-inspired space, Jon Giraldo and Jaime Lieberman successfully fuse Mexican and Colombian cuisines, which combine perfectly with Mediterranean flavours. Expect evocative visual focal points and a setting in which anything is possible and nothing stays the same. Our advice: Turn off expectations and allow the experience to carry you away.
Jaime Beriestain
Jaime Beriestain encourages the discovery of conceptual cuisine at his eponymous restaurant, which serves up recipes from the renowned chef’s native Chile alongside various innovative creations and international dishes. An eclectic mix of industrial concrete and vintage chic, the restaurant’s interior is as dynamic as the market-fresh ingredients that feature on its menu.
En línea Barcelona
Featuring contemporary, distinctly Barcelonan pieces, this furniture showroom opened over 30 years ago. It also offers an interior design service from its ground-floor location in a building with Modernist and Noucentist details, designed by architect Bernadí Martorell i Puig in 1924. Faithful to the brand style, the airy space perfectly shows off collections from some of the most prestigious furniture firms in the world, along with complementary accessories and artworks.
