Your pocket personal trainer
We asked our athleisure brands for their insider tricks on boosting your running streak.

Whether you’re working out at home or are clocking up those miles on the streets, you’re not alone in having a new-found fitness routine. But how do you maintain motivation when sunny afternoons in the park, Netflix boxsets and Zoom catch-ups come calling? We asked the experts…
Ease yourself in
While a proper warm-up routine is crucial for loosening up your muscles, it’s also the easiest way to get your mind on board too. Add a slow five-minute stretch before you train – and don’t forget to repeat the routine post-workout too. No one wants to be stiff and sore for days afterwards.
Track your progress
Whether you’re training for a race or just want to get in shape, setting yourself a goal will keep you focused. And there are plenty of apps offering data-driven coaching that will really help you boost your fitness streak. Look to Under Armour’s MapMyRun app. It let you set goals, build personalised training plans, receive audio coaching and discover new routes wherever you are. A virtual coach in your pocket!
Don’t beat yourself up if you’re not top of your game right now – everyone starts out as a beginner. Asics recommends alternating between running and walking to begin with: try a fast walking pace and gradually increase the number of minutes you run for. And persevere: it takes 21 days to build a new habit!
Dress for success
Pro trainers and affirmation tools are one thing, but everyone knows that a killer workout wardrobe is key to getting off the sofa. Invest in high-performance leggings, running apparel and trainers that will improve your performance and look good in action.
Our pick: ASICS sneakers with gel technology and a waterproof jacket from Columbia – you’ll have no excuse for being a fair-weather runner.
Bookmarking your favourite upbeat tunes will keep you motivated on longer runs and help you up the pace when necessary. Don’t have time to curate your own playlist? Download ours here for a selection of songs that’ll set your pulse racing.
