How to set a stylish Easter table
Whether you’re hosting an Easter brunch, a spring soirée, or one of the season’s first barbecues, delight in spending the Easter weekend with your loved ones. Friend of the Village Céline Delcourte, founder of Antoinette Design, shares step-by-step advice on creating a beautiful tablescape using things foraged and found around the home…
Cover the table
“Part tabletop protection, part pure aesthetics, a tablecloth, charger plate or placemat is the first building block of your tablescape.”

Create the centrepiece
“Be creative: garden flowers, fruit, vegetables, … They all have the potential to become the shining centrepiece of your table. My tip: don’t underestimate the power of a single flower. Tumblers, wine and tot glasses and small bottles make perfect vases. Play with heights – a cut rose here, a sprig of spring blossom there – to add texture and depth.”

Add candles
“Dust off those silver candlesticks for a sense of occasion. If possible, choose a single colour to unify your tablescape look.”

Lay the plates
“One per person and perfectly aligned, strictly speaking plates should be 60 centimetres apart and about one centimetre from the edge of the table.”

Arrange the cutlery
“Start with the main-course cutlery, placing the knife to the right of the plate – blade facing inwards – and the fork to the left. Add the entrée cutlery on the outside, aligning the ensemble with the dinner plate. The soup spoon sits next to the knives, the dessert spoon above the plate. British table etiquette dictates that the curved parts of the cutlery, like the bowl of the spoon and the tines of the fork, face upwards, while French table experts insist on the reverse.”

Add napkins
“Fabric beats paper when it comes to class – and white linen is always a winner. Fold your napkins into squares, rectangles or hexagons or simply roll and secure with a napkin ring.”

Name it
“Use your imagination! From paper to pebbles, nametags can be made from practically anything.”

Say cheers!
“Put wine glasses at the top right-hand side of the plate, starting with the largest and ending with the smallest. If you’re following French rules, they should be diagonally aligned. According to British etiquette, they should sit parallel to the edge of the table.”
Take joy in life’s simple pleasures and have a happy Easter!
